More Information About the Fokker DR-1 Triplane
Introduced over the western front in August 1917, the Fokker DR-1 Triplane soon became the favorite plane of Germany’s greatest World War 1 ace, Baron Manfred von Richthofen. After scoring 80 aerial victories (the highest total of any ace in WWI), von Richthofen was shot down in a triplane on April 21, 1918. The official record credits British pilot Roy Brown with the kill, though in recent years it was proven to be by Sgt. Popkin, a machine-gunner with Australian ground forces.
